Investment:

Alpacas have been called "The worlds finest livestock investment."

Like any investment, value fluctuates with the supply and demand of that investment. Around the world demand for the lovable alpaca is high and the supply of alpacas is relatively low.

The demand for alpacas has increased dramatically every year for the past 17 years, since begining exportation from South America in 1985.

Alpaca reproduce slowly. A female with give birth to 1 baby (cria) every 12 months with 50% of these cria male. Female alpaca are induced ovulators making embryo transplantation unfeasable. The U.S. alpaca registry is closed to further importation to protect our national herd. All of these factors will limit the supply of Alpaca in the future, helping to maintain a favorable return on investment.

Hands-on Alpaca farming can offer some very attractive tax advantages. If the animals are raised for profit, all of the expenses associated with their care can be written off against your taxes. Helping to shelter current income.
